About Dee Did That

I'm Shadee — mother, creative, hairdresser and founder of Dee Did That. My whole life I've been called Dee or Deetje. And every time someone looked in my chair and said "Ooh Dee, you did that!", I felt: this is what I want to do. Make people shine.
My love for hair began at home. As the only one in the family with coarse curls, I saw how difficult it could be to see yourself in the hairdresser's chair. My mother often came home disappointed with straight blow-dried hair — while she had something completely different in mind. At the age of fourteen, I started styling and braiding curls myself. My nephews, nieces, myself. What started as curiosity eventually became a profession.
I graduated as a photographer, worked in that field for four years, but something was missing. When I started working in a salon, everything fell into place. Especially women with curls were automatically sent to me — “because I have Surinamese roots”. On the one hand, that gave me a label, but on the other hand, the opportunity to learn more deeply, listen, understand. Four years later, I started for myself.
I never labeled myself as a “curly hair stylist” — but my clients already saw me that way.
With Dee Did That I want to set a new standard. I want even the smallest curly heads to learn to love themselves. I want my clients — young and old — to take care of their hair with confidence. To understand what their hair needs, and to know: there is nothing wrong with you. You just need the right attention.
In my chair I ask a lot of questions. I want to know what you really want. No miscommunication, no quick fixes. Honesty, quality and attention are paramount. And that also applies to my products: 100% silk, no compromises. Because self-care starts with giving yourself the best.
Dee Did That isn't just about her. It's about being seen. Being heard. And ultimately, owning yourself.
